Biography

Julia Slyer-Fitch, MD, is a pediatrician dedicated to providing compassionate, family-centered care to children and adolescents. She is passionate about preventive care, building trusting relationships with families, and supporting children as they grow and reach important developmental milestones.

Julia has always been drawn to science, lifelong learning, and working with children, making pediatrics a natural fit. During medical school, she discovered that she especially enjoyed caring for the whole patient rather than focusing on a single organ system, which led her toward primary care. Her pediatrics rotation let her experience the long-term relationships pediatricians build with children and their families, which remains one of the most rewarding aspects of her work.

Julia earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology and Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the State University of New York at Buffalo. She earned her Doctor of Medicine from New York Medical College School of Medicine in Valhalla, NY, and completed her Pediatrics Residency at Albany Medical Center in Albany, NY. She is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics and Alpha Omega Alpha.

Her clinical interests include asthma, lactation support, LGBTQIA care, and preventive care. She is particularly interested in caring for medically complex children. She values the variety of primary care, from well-child visits and immunizations to caring for children when they are sick.

For Julia, one of the most meaningful parts of being a pediatrician is watching children grow and thrive while supporting their parents along the way. She believes preventive care and immunizations are essential to keeping children healthy and emphasizes a family-centered partnership to support children’s overall development. She also stays current with the latest research and pediatric recommendations so she can provide high-quality care and help parents make informed decisions for their families.

Outside of medicine, Julia enjoys spending time outdoors, particularly taking long bike rides around Rensselaer and Columbia Counties. She also believes in staying active and makes a point of moving her body every day.
