Biography

Alissa Carter, FNP-BC, is a board-certified family nurse practitioner and a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and the American Nurses Association. She received her Master of Science in nursing, family nurse practitioner from The Sage Colleges in Albany, New York. Alissa began her studies at SUNY Plattsburgh in Plattsburgh, New York, earning her bachelor’s degree in nursing. She is specifically passionate about health promotion and disease prevention. Alissa enjoys educating patients about lifestyle modifications that can help prevent chronic medical conditions such as diabetes and heart disease. Often, chronic medical conditions can affect a person’s quality of life, so she strives to help patients achieve and maintain the best quality of life possible.

Alissa saw effective care firsthand through her grandmother’s treatment for ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease). She saw how compassionate the caregivers, nurses, and providers cared for her grandmother during the many challenging times and how much the care team really helped her grandmother navigate this difficult illness. Alissa soon realized she wanted to practice medicine to support people with chronic medical conditions, too. She chose to specialize in primary care because she enjoys working as a nurse, seeing chronic diseases, and wanted to be at the forefront of the health care operation to help in disease prevention and patient wellness. Alissa loves working with patients and their families to develop individualized plans for their health and wellness. She enjoys the teamwork aspect of collaborating with her patients and families.

Alissa is originally from Buffalo, NY. In her spare time, Alissa enjoys playing with her puppies, spending time outdoors with family and friends, and going for long bike rides in the summer.
