Biography

Patrick Matolka is a registered and certified physician assistant by the Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) and is a member of the Pi Alpha Honor Society, an elite national society for physician assistants. He cares for patients of all ages. Patrick received his Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from Albany Medical College in Albany, NY. He earned his Bachelor of Science from The State University of New York at Albany. His medical experience began in 2003 when he enlisted in the military. Following basic training, Patrick attended the Army Medical Center and School at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, TX, where he was a Combat Medic and Licensed Practical Nursing Program student. He began working at the Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, TX. After two years, he was deployed to Iraq, where he worked at the camp’s intensive care unit and immunization clinic. Patrick worked for five years in the Army Orthopedic Ward and ICU. He was discharged honorably with the rank of Sergeant, and his interest now lies in internal medicine. Patrick enjoys the challenge of internal medicine and likes to expand his knowledge in caring for the adult and pediatric population. He has special interests in infectious disease, cardiovascular health, and performing in-office procedures like sutures, incisions, and drainage of an abscess. Knowing how to identify and treat the different types of infectious bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites and how the body reacts to the antigens interests him.

Patrick knew he wanted a job in healthcare since he was a child. As an elementary school student, Patrick would help his mother study for her RN degree. Then as a high schooler, he discovered an interest in the biological and chemical sciences. Both of these factors pushed him to pursue a career in medicine. What he loves most about being a physician assistant is making patients feel at ease in his office. Patrick enjoys having conversations with patients about their concerns, educating patients, and collaborating to provide quality care.

Outside of medicine, Patrick enjoys nature, hiking in the Adirondacks, bouldering, and sport climbing. He is a participant in the Warrior Wellness Day of the Averill Park School District in January 2021. He had the opportunity to collaborate and discuss the effects of COVID-19 on mental health in adolescence.
